Global Citizenship Awareness @ Silver Oaks Holistic Child Development: August 2019

Independence Day Celebrations: “Land of the pure”, the literal translation of the word Pakistan, gained independence and sovereignty, over the East & West Pakistan territory, on 14th of August, 1947 (27th Ramadan according to the Islamic Calendar) through efforts and sacrifice of millions of remarkably committed Muslims of the sub-continent led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Although the nation, annually, celebrates Independence Day with much fanfare and passion, we, the people of this nation, are miles away from the unity – faith – discipline code of our founding father. Conversely, at Silver Oaks, while celebrating Independence, our intent was to get Oakians focused on giving thought to the role each and every member can plan in shaping the future of this country. In activity-based assembly, Oakians performed tableaus, skits, and national songs to dedicate the day to their beloved country. Sacrifice & Charity virtues honored by Oakians in the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha: The Latin term “sacrificium” usually implies “doing without something” or “giving something up”. Charity is an act of kindness and benevolence through giving voluntary help, monetary or otherwise, to those in need – an institution, a single person or a group of people. On the occasion of Eid ul Adha (Islamic Festival of Sacrifice), affluent Muslims all over the world perform the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) by sacrificing an animal with the meat distributed in three equal shares – one part is distributed amongst the poor; the second part is distributed amongst the relatives, while the third part is retained for own use.
