4 Oakians Won Silver Awards @ International Essay Writing Contest

23 October, 2018·

Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS), founded in 1868, is a network of individuals and organizations committed to improving youth empowerment, education, and advocacy. The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, founded in 1883, is the world’s oldest international schools’ writing contest. Sponsored by Cambridge University Press, this year’s contest received approximately 12,000 entries from across the Commonwealth (Juniors under 13 & Seniors 14-18 years of age) on topics about four sub-themes: 1) What does a safer future mean to you and your community? 2) Write a recipe for a common future: what ingredients will you need? What is the best method for making it? What will it look like? 3) ‘A Day in the Life’. Imagine you are your country’s Head of Government for the day: how will you build a better future for young people? 4) Our Common Earth. 16 Oakians participated in this category. We are extremely proud to share that 3 of our participating pupils won the Silver Award (Top 15% in the World) recognition and 1 of our participating pupils won the Bronze Award: Well done Arisha Khan (Grade 6); Abeeha Sheraz (Grade 7); Maham Rizwan (Grade 8 / IG-3) & Mishal Fatima (Grade 7). Entries were assessed by a pan-Commonwealth body of judges, drawn from more than 40 different countries - judges commented on the maturity shown by many of the young writers, with entries described as ‘intelligent’, ‘impassioned’, ‘thoughtful’, ‘articulate’ and ‘beautifully written’. Arisha, Abeeha, Maham & Mishal: Thank you for carrying your school’s & Pakistan’s flag! You are budding writers. Keep up the good work 🙂
