01 September, 2018 · World Humanitarian Day Celebrated @ Silver Oaks Global Citizenship
The World Humanitarian Day focuses on the welfare of human beings - aiming to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity in the aftermath of man-made and natural disasters. It was first marked on 19th August 2003, following the worst-ever attack on the United Nations Headquarters that explosively unfolded in Baghdad, killing 22, including Sergio de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the leader of the UN Mission in Iraq. This attack highlighted the growing risks that humanitarian workers face. Internationally, Pakistan has been accepted as a victim of disasters. Individual Pakistanis like the late Abdul Sattar Edhi have been cited as examples of champions for humanity. Conversely, Oakians performed different activities to celebrate Humanitarianism. Within this context, Oakians were provided reference context to develop and deliver Urdu Speeches on the theme with topics “Insaniat Kia Hai”, “Insan aur Insaniat”, “Insaniat Dum Torr Rahi Hai” and “Insaniat aur Khidmat-e-Khalq”. Pupils of pre-school enjoyed white color day with story presentation activities.
