05 December, 2017 · Human Rights & Volunteering Days Celebrated @ Silver Oaks
Human Rights’ Day is observed every year on December 10, since UN declaration in 1948. UN Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document - that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birth or other status - is the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages. International Volunteer Day (IVD), celebrated on December 5, is an international observance designated by UN since 1985. Founded on the values of solidarity and mutual trust, volunteerism transcends all cultural, linguistic and geographical boundaries. By giving their time and skills without expectation of material reward, volunteers themselves are uplifted by a singular sense of purpose. In order to be aware of and recognize these Global Citizenship themes, Oakians celebrated these days through a range of activities – assembly public speaking; skits & songs; themed art work; creative writing; and story presentation.
