13 November, 2017 · Student Week @ Silver Oaks
Oakians exuberantly participated in Students’ Week from November 13-18, 2017 which had it all – intense competition finals, launch of Big Read, one-child-one-book sharing activity, sports, award ceremonies, and an enthralling funfair to cap off the week. Followed by inaugural Team Oakians’ participation at “The Stallion Cup” Sports Inter-School / College event from Nov 9-11 (biggest sporting event in the city with 26 schools), this year, Silver Oaks initiated and launched, for the first time, a dedicated student week.
At College, Literary & Performing Arts Club organized English Debate (“Peace”) and creative-writing (“Youth – The Nation Builders”); Urdu poetry recitation, dramatic reading (USEFP) and creative-writing (“Sacrifice & Charity”). Global Citizenship Club & Student Industrial Society jointly organized a “Tribute to Teachers” followed by the movie “Dead Poets’ Society” and a formal dinner. Social Work Club participated in “USEFP Fall Fest” – charity activities for the under-privileged. Three Oakian High Achievers were also honored by USEFP. At Primary & Middle School, after intense competitions in Terms 1 & 2, pupils competed in the final rounds of “Spellathon”; “Reading & Research”; as well as English & Urdu Debates; and creative-writing in both languages. Pre-school pupils enjoyed Show & Tell, Story Presentation, Spot-it Games and Color Days and all pupils enjoyed sports. Winners of Term 3 were awarded with shields and medals at the campuses while overall winners were awarded, with parents present, at our new Ceremony Hall at Faraz Campus. To mark the end on a high, a colorful and exciting Funfair was enjoyed by learners, parents and teachers alike.
Unfortunately, owing to the state of chaos in the twin cities rising security concerns, the scheduled educational trips to ‘Islamabad Zoo’, ‘National Museum’ and the sporting matches of Middle/Secondary level were cancelled. Additionally, our 154 pupils, preparing for the National Inter-School Math Olympiad Contest in the student week, could not reach the event venue in Islamabad this week.
Social Action Project – one-child-one-book – seeking that each Oakian child donates a book for “Read Trust Pakistan” was concluded in the student week – the response was mixed. 1000 books were contributed against a target of 3000. We will make a second round request to achieve the desired target. In addition, students from Grade 1-8 have been selected and have starting their book reading & review writing to participate in the Oxford Big Read National Contest. Good luck!
